Simple Skin-Soothing Mix that Worked Better than Prescriptions

When you’re a mom, you’ll try just about anything to help your kids feel better, especially when it comes to itchy, uncomfortable eczema. Over the years, all three of my boys have had flare-ups, and one of them still deals with it now. We’ve been through the whole routine- prescriptions like Desonide and Triamcinolone, gentle cleansers, fragrance-free laundry detergent… you name it.

What finally worked best for us wasn’t expensive, complicated, or found behind a pharmacy counter. It was a mix of two simple drugstore staples: Cetaphil cream and Aquaphor ointment.

I started by scooping a small amount of Cetaphil cream (for its lightweight moisture and easy spread) and mixing it with an equal amount of Aquaphor (for its rich, protective barrier). The Cetaphil sinks in quickly, while the Aquaphor locks that moisture in and keeps skin from drying out. Together, they created a smooth, creamy blend that was easy to apply without feeling too greasy.

We used it after showers and as needed during the day, especially on Mai Boys’ arms, legs, and any patchy spots. It also worked wonders for those little dry bumps they’d sometimes get on their arms and legs, too- softening the skin and smoothing the texture. Within days, the redness started to fade, the itching calmed down, and their skin felt softer and healthier.

Now, I’m not a doctor- just a mom sharing what’s worked for us. Everyone’s skin is different, and eczema can be tricky, so always consult your pediatrician or dermatologist before trying anything new. But for our household, this little homemade blend has been a game-changer.

Sometimes, the simplest solutions really are the best!
