Miles & Memories

Jumping & Climbing through Joshua Tree

Journey to Joshua

Joshua Tree didin’t disappoint. There’s something so rugged and wild about the open desert that instantly slows you down, and at the same time, awakens something in you. That’s exactly what happened when we took Mai Boys out for a desert day of exploring, hiking, and hopping through this uniquely beautiful landscape.

The desert terrain stretched endlessly in every direction, dotted with twisted Joshua Trees, spiky yucca, and rock formations that looked like they belonged on another planet. The air was dry, but the breeze was cool enough to keep us moving. You feel small out there, but in the best kind of way.

And oh, the boulders. They’re massive- stacked like giant building blocks that God just left for kids to climb. Mai Boys were in heaven, scrambling up rock piles, leaping from one to another like little mountain goats, and testing their balance on narrow ridges. They climbed, hopped, jumped, and slid, their laughter echoing across the stillness of the desert.

We followed a few trails, each one opening up to new views and hidden corners tucked into the rocks. At one point, we all paused to just take it in- the wind weaving through the cactus, the sun casting long shadows over the boulders, and the peace that you can only find in a place like this. It’s not loud, not flashy, but it’s powerful.

If you’ve ever wondered whether Joshua Tree is worth the trek with kids, let me answer that: 100% yes. Between the climbing, the wide open spaces, and the sense of freedom, it’s one of those places where memories get made without trying too hard.

This wasn’t just a hike, it was a whole adventure.
