Roughing It (but not really)

Off the Grid and Into the Wild

Thomas Mountain

There’s something so special about finding a slice of land that feels like it was made just for you, and that’s exactly what Thomas Mountain in San Bernardino County gave us.

After a little off-roading adventure, we landed on the perfect dispersed camping spot- completely secluded, wide open, and full of peace. No neighbors, no noise, no distractions. Just us, the wilderness, and room to stretch out in every direction.

We’ve always preferred dispersed camping over crowded campgrounds for one simple reason: freedom. Freedom to explore, to relax, to set up camp where it feels right. And this trip? It was everything we needed. Mai Boys had space to run and play to their hearts’ content, and we had space to breathe.

One of the most memorable parts of this trip? The night sky. With no city lights anywhere nearby, the stars were unbelievably bright and clear – like diamonds scattered across a velvet sky. We sat back on our chairs, looking up in awe, soaking in the silence.

The days were filled with fresh air, trail exploring, and good food by the fire. The nights were quiet, cool, and humbling under the stars. No screens. No schedules. Just being present with each other and with nature.

If you’re craving that kind of stillness and space, Thomas Mountain is it. Just be ready to go off-road and come prepared; it’s off the grid in all the best ways.

Highly recommend for families, couples, or solo adventurers who want to disconnect from the chaos and reconnect with what matters most.
